Sangria Recipe

As promised, here is the first recipe. Today I'm going to tell you about a Sangria Recipe.

We (me and some girlfriends) decided to have a spanish/mexican theme night, we put on mexican sombreros, listened to spanish music, and drank Sangria! It was a whole lot of fun.

We experimented a little with some different recipes and I have here, the best sangria recipe I could find. What I really like about this one over the others, is the apple! Why don't so many recipes have apple? Well technically its not 100% traditional, but it should be!

I also like that the recipe doesn't just say "chuck a bottle of wine in there" - it lists a variety of different alcohols which compliment eachother for better flavour.

Now the color is also fantastic, and I'm a big fan of color! A little bit of color can really make something taste better! Its may be hard to imagine, but any great chef will tell you the same thing. The ingenious plan with this recipe, was to include limes (green) lemons (yellow) orange (do I have to tell you - they are orange) and maraschino cherries (red) - The apple absorbs the color of the liquid, and you end up with a very delicious and rather gorgeous drink!

The proportions in this sangria are just about perfect - Personally I like my Sangria to sparkle a little, so I added some ginger ale.

Try it - trust me its FANTASTIC!

My First Blog

This is my first blog and a place I can share my ideas and rants with all of my friends.

Why do I call it "Stove Slave"? One day, when my first child was about 3, we were in the basement playing along with some of my extended family and husband. I went off to get dinner started and my daughter started looking for me and asked her grandma, "Where's mummy"? Grandma responded, "She's slaving over the stove, making us all a nice dinner". Grandpa responded, "Mother like daughter, stove-slaves".

Well it wasn't long before my daughter was in the kitchen calling me a "Stove Slave" and ever since we joke about it. I don't mind the term as one of my passions is cooking. I've been doing it since I was about five. Of course, I learnt most everything from my mum.

So anytime I find a great recipe or just want to vent my frustrations, then this is the place you'll find me.
